Laser — Half Legs

"Half" is not the name of a body part, it describes a boundary. Where that boundary runs the name does not say; it is pointed to at the start of the appointment and settled there. That the two sides of it will look different we also say beforehand.

About this treatment

With a service whose cut is described by a boundary, the commonest mismatch arises at the boundary itself. The line in the reader's head and the line drawn at the appointment are usually not in the same place.

So we settle the line not in conversation but by having it pointed to, and we write down where it was drawn. At the appointments that follow, the same line is used.

The second subject is the boundary itself: between the side worked and the side not worked, a visible difference appears. We say that before the appointment, not after.

Session plan

The weeks in between are what test the line. Finding it higher or lower than you had pictured happens out in daily life, not in the room; your next visit starts from what you found.

Who it is planned for

This entry describes its cut by a boundary, and where that boundary sits is your choice. Coming ready to point out the line you have in mind speeds everything up. The decision is made together at the appointment.

  • Think of the boundary in a way you can point to at the appointment.
  • Pass on a tendency towards scars or keloids before the appointment.
  • If you have tanned recently, say so.
  • Report the medicines you take, isotretinoin among them.

Before your appointment

Recommended

  • Come in clothing that lets you point out the boundary at the appointment.
  • Apply a sun cream every day in the period before the treatment.
  • Bring a tendency towards scars or keloids, and your medicines, in writing.
  • If you are thinking of moving the boundary later, say so from the start.

To avoid

  • Do not assume the name says where the boundary sits.
  • Do not tan, in the sun or in a sunbed, in the period before the appointment.
  • Do not use a tanning product.
  • Do not mark the boundary yourself at home; we draw it together at the appointment.

Method

This section is where a machine's working principle would go, and for the platform the studio uses we hold no manufacturer document. Where the boundary of the area is drawn is a separate question, and we answer it in the section about coverage.

How the appointment runs

  1. Drawing the lineYou begin by showing where the line should run, and it is fixed there. The catalogue name alone does not fix it.
  2. Writing the line downThe line you drew goes into the record. Every later visit picks it up from there.
  3. What is to be reportedThe points to be reported are gone through one by one here and written into the note.
  4. The applicationNothing is worked outside the line. If crossing it becomes necessary, you hear it first.
  5. Looking at the boundary againAt the end we ask whether the line sits well for you; moving it is a fair answer.

After your appointment

Recommended

  • Watch the difference between the two sides of the boundary and say so if it bothers you.
  • Carry on with sun protection over the days that follow.
  • Record how long the redness lasts.
  • Come to the next appointment with your thought about the boundary.

To avoid

  • Do not treat the area beyond the boundary on your own.
  • Do not keep the part long in the sun after the appointment.
  • Do not use a sunbed or a tanning product until the next appointment.
  • Do not put a product of your own choosing on a blister or a scar.

When to contact us: If a redness lasts longer than you expected, or blistering or a change of colour appears, ring us and say which side of the boundary it is on. If it looks like a sign of infection, see a doctor first.

What to be aware of

  • After the treatment a redness and a swelling like a mild sunburn is to be expected.
  • Blistering, infection, scarring and a lasting change of colour in the skin are reported among the rarer risks.
  • In the period before the treatment, applying a wide-spectrum sun cream of at least factor thirty every day is advised.
  • If you tend towards outbreaks of oral or genital herpes, you must report that before the treatment.
  • Tanning in the sun or in a sunbed, and tanning products, are to be kept away from.

At a glance

  • Where the boundary runs is settled at the start of the appointment by pointing.
  • The boundary drawn is written down, and at the appointments that follow the same line is used.
  • That a visible difference appears between the two sides of the boundary is said before the appointment.
  • If you want to widen the cut, it is explained that this is an entry of its own and that the boundary shifts.
  • Even with a narrow cut you come back more than once, with long gaps in between.

Good to know

Where does "half" stop?

Below the knee, or further up?

The catalogue carries the name of the cut; where the line runs it does not carry. That line is pointed to by hand at the appointment and settled there.

The place settled goes into the note, and the appointments that follow carry on from the same point.

Will the two sides of the boundary look different?

Is there a difference between above and below the line?

Between the side worked and the side not worked a visible difference appears. We say that before the appointment.

Whether that difference will bother you is hard to know in advance; if it does, we talk about changing the cut.

Can I change the boundary later?

What happens if I want it higher?

The change is talked through at the appointment, and the new line is written down with its date.

If you want to take the cut up to the whole leg, that is a canonical entry of its own; we can talk about that at the appointment too.

Is it worked more than once here too?

With a narrow cut — would once not do?

No, and the source puts it that way: you come back at long intervals. A narrow cut is no exception to it.

Later something grows back; that is to be reckoned with, and then it can be worked again.

Does the sun matter here as well?

Must I protect myself when it is only the lower leg?

Yes. No tanned skin, and a protective cream every day — the cut changes none of it.

A narrow strip buys no leeway here.

What needs saying beforehand?

What should I think of before the appointment?

Scars and keloids, a fresh tan, herpes outbreaks, and isotretinoin along with everything else you swallow.

The source set those out; nothing of ours is added.

Do you lose something if the line sits low?

Is staying below the knee the worse choice?

No. All that shifts is how far the work reaches.

Where the line sits best comes out in conversation, and later it can be moved.

The Fatma Süha approach

At Fatma Süha, with a service described by a boundary, we settle the line by having it pointed to. A boundary agreed only in words sits in two places for two people.

We write the line down. Without writing it down it slides a few centimetres every appointment, and nobody notices.

That a visible difference appears between the two sides we say beforehand. Said afterwards it is an explanation; said beforehand it is a shared decision.

If you want to widen the cut, we say that this is an entry of its own. An area quietly made larger throws both your record and ours out.

Frequently asked questions

How far up does the half leg go?
The boundary is settled at the start of the appointment by pointing, and written down. The name in the catalogue does not count as a boundary on its own.
Will the two sides of the line look different?
A visible difference appears, and we say so before the appointment. If it bothers you, we talk about changing the cut.
Can I move the boundary higher later?
It can be changed by talking it through; the new line is written down with its date. Going to the whole leg is an entry of its own.
On a small area, does one appointment do?
The source says laser hair removal is a series with appointments weeks apart; the area being small does not change that.
Do I have to protect myself even for just the lower leg?
Yes, the advice does not change with the size of the area.
Does the result hold?
Our source says regrowth is to be expected over time. This page promises nothing about lasting.
Can I mark the boundary at home and come like that?
No need. We draw it together at the appointment; pointing out the place you have in mind is enough.
I take medicines — must I report that?
Yes, pass on the medicines before the appointment; isotretinoin is one of them.
